One possibility in finding out why the Miles Hawk landed might be if an ex employee of Fairey Aviation still remembers seeing the aircraft taking off possibly the next day, during day-light hours, although any person would have to be over 80 years old. Doubtfull if any ex Hestair employees still around.

I did watch Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland in "The Adventures of Robin Hood" yesterday. Oh! the memories! As very young girls he was our heart-throb. We all idolised him. A shame he died at 50. Olivia de Havilland said they were both very attracted to each other. In fact, as time went on they loved one another. But, as she said "He never had his wicked way with me." Lovely also to see the o... more >>

  • Re: tv by Pauline Sykes (Member 10235828) on 29-Nov-2009
Yes, Errol Flynn did like his drink, but he also liked drugs and ended up with an enlarged heart. "Gone with the Wind" was fantastic with Clarke Gable as Rhett Butler and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara. You had to be careful not to drop off, as it was so long! I also Saw "Phantom of the Opera" but we were disappointed to just miss Michael Crawford playing the lead. Can't remember whom we saw.

These fabulous old film stars names sure bring back memories. Pauline you mentioned Alan Hale, do you remember in the 50's/60's there was a tv prog called Csey Jones about a western railroad driver, think the tune went 'Casey Jones steaming and a rolling'. Anyway correct me if I'm wrong was the lead, Casey Jones played by Alan Hale Jnr.?

  • Re: tv by Pauline Sykes (Member 10235828) on 29-Nov-2009
Hi Barry - You are quite right Alan Dale Jnr was the star lead as Casey Jones. He was an engineer of the steam-powered "Canonball Express" in 32 episodes 1957-58. His father died in 1950, and the title "Jnr" was dropped. I'm afraid I can't remember watching the series on TV although the tune rings a bell.

  • Re: cuckooites.org by keith williams (Member 10241513) on 28-Nov-2009
John Lennon NEVER went to Drayton Manor - ever, but l did 1959-64. Rick Wakeman was there in the early 60s, probably 60-65

  • Re: cuckooites.org by Yvonne Butler (Member 10237916) on 28-Nov-2009
perhaps he has made false entry.. Keith see frith memories southall..he went from southall to hanwell.went drayton manor..some query you notice keith..1940s 50s john lennon says..lennon is common name..I knew local lennon family...let us know keith

  • Re: cuckooites.org by Len Goddard (Member 10234853) on 28-Nov-2009
This John Lennon lived in Gordon Road Southall

  • Re: cuckooites.org by keith williams (Member 10241513) on 28-Nov-2009
l think we must conclude that we are talking about different John Lennons. However, l was at Drayton Manor 59-64 and will now be amazed that there was anyone there with the name John Lennon at the same time. I was part of the '59 intake. Six weeks ago they had 50th anniversary at Ealing cricket club, (I could not go). Only 7 out of a possible 91 were there.

  • Re: cuckooites.org by Len Goddard (Member 10234853) on 28-Nov-2009
Keith I am not saying he went to Drayton this Lennon wrote about life in Southall I believe Peter Crouch went to Drayton I may be wrong.

  • Re: cuckooites.org by Yvonne Butler (Member 10237916) on 28-Nov-2009

  • Re: cuckooites.org by Yvonne Butler (Member 10237916) on 28-Nov-2009

  • Re: cuckooites.org by keith williams (Member 10241513) on 28-Nov-2009
Peter Crouch deinitely went to Drayton Manor, but well after l had left. l am unable to recall any Lennon at D M G S, but perhaps l'm going old & senile.

Paul Stuart FIDDES was a year ahead of me - he is now one of Britiain's greatest theologians and you can look him up on "Wapedia" etc. l do remember him, and Rick Wakeman

Yes, Fiddes and Rick Wakeman overlapped a bit at Drayton Manor. It was a very good school and some kids came from Hayes - one from W Drayton in my class. Had to use train to or from Hanwell station every day and walk - nobody had parents take them to school in those days even if (the minority) parents had cars. Fiddes was 58 intake Wakeman was 60 (poss 61) intake. Very good school
