Dormers Wells School

I was interested to read so many messages about Dormers Wells School. Unfortunately I didn't recognise any of the names
I was there in the fifties. My name was Dora Whiting I had a sister two
years above me Roberta (Bobbie). Miss Hall was the Headmistress, she
was fiece. The teacher that made a great impression in my life was Miss
Joan Harding, she gave me an appreciation of music that has grown
throughout my life. I also remember Miss Oliver the English teacher.
Miss Bowles the games mistress. I often wonder what has happened to the
girls in my class. Susan Gibson, she was Head Girl and originally came
from Macclesfield. Maryrose Whitby, Pamela Wreford, Judy Frost, Carole
Wallington and many others. It would be great to hear from anyone that
remembers me. I was also a member of St Georges church youth club and
went to Tudor Road Primary School. ... more >>

Dora, my name was Judith
Humphrey. I remember Roberta Whiting, I'm sure she was in my class.
Also, yes Miss Hall was rather fierce but underneath, very kind. she was
brilliant to me when my father died. Also Miss Harding left me with the
same love as music as with you. I was in the school orchestra (violin) I
remember a Janice Johnson who was the lead violinist. I hated games and
made every excuse to get
out of it. Miss Harding let me help her with the school printing instead
of games. In return she took me to many concerts and also several
Gilbert and Sullivan. I have a photo of the class on a trip to a silk
farm in Kent, I'm sure Roberta must be on it. For financial reasons, my
mother couldn't keep me at school after my fifteenth birthday so I left
in 1953.Where did you live in southall. I was in AScot Gardens until I
moved in 1973 to Berkshire. I'm now a grandmother of four, where have
all the years gone? give my regards to Roberta. ... more >>

Secretary of the Old Feathers Association and organised a reunion all
through the sixties. I left the School in 1950. It has its owen Masonic

Did you know?
The School still holds in its archives pupil admission cards with portrait photo, for those years.
There was concert and exhibition held in 1997 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of founding.
The School is 100 years old in 2007.
Little has changed internally. The assembly hall
seems exactly the same as in 1954 and elsewhere inside the room functions and decor are the only apparent differences.Outside side and rear changes
are significant. A large annexe now stands over where the long jump pits
used to be and of course the wooden classroom sheds ,bike racks and
outside toilets are no longer there. ... more >>

As far as I can remember the
school on Western Road was fairly new in the 60's. It was a boys
secondary modern then and nothing to do with Southall Grammar School.
If you passed your 11 plus you went to Southall Grammar otherwise the
boys went to Weston Road Secondary and the girls to another secondary
school further along the road towards Hayes - just before Tiney Crescent
turning I think.

Does anyone remember Jean Hillier (1951-58) who lived
at 58 Alexandra Avenue Southall? She went to Art College after school,
and I lost touch with her. Would be very interested to have any info
about her.
There was an 80th anniversary in 1987, and I was invited back with my
husband for a celebration lunch with some of the original staff, which
included Mr Vernon, Miss Brooke and Mrs Stead.
It was really very strange to be eating at their table! In the evening,
there was a concert, and I played a piano solo. The piano was the same
one that had been there when I was a pupil. Some more staff arrived
including Mrs Botley, Miss Seidmann and Miss Nourse. There were also
some of my year there including Peter Kelly and his wife Janet (nee
Mackenzie who had been Captain of White House) Derek Matthews, Vera
Woodhouse and Beryl Worrall.
Has anyone heard from Veronica Brend, Sara Morgan, Ray Wheeler, Paul
Hibbins, who was quite a talented violinist, Gloria Fuge, Anne Brice,

I was there from '58 to '63 and

the new school in Western road. Names that spring to mind:- Colin
Walker, Mick Ager, Billy Brooks, robin Hill, Johnny Eagle, Paul Little,
Colin Rose, Tom Stratford, Peter Jackson, Jeff Emmett, Paul Benson,
Frank Chidley. Teachers:- Mr. Jeffries (Biology) took us on an Easter
skiing trip to Austria, Nobby Clarke (Physics), Mr. Skyrme (Maths).
I remember that half the kid's families in my street emigrated to Oz in this period.
I had a paper-round job with Hill's newsagents directly acroos the road from the school's main entrance.

I am trying to locate Jimmy Fraser who used to live at 97 Allenby Road
Southall with his wife Olive and daughter Suzannah (who would now be
around 50. He was my father's best friend in the RAF and I would love
to trace him as they would now both be in their late 70's.
If anyone can help - please email me - any information at all.
Thanks
Carol

Hi, I am trying to contact a woman who lived in Southall in the late
50's/early 60's. Her name was Rita Elizabeth Evans, she lived at 175
Hillary Road and she was a canteen assistant. If anyone has information
on her whereabouts or how I can contact her please email me - that would
be most appreciated. Thanks and kind regards.
