In the 1881 Census Matilda is living at Banksian Villa, Hastings St Mary In The Castle, Sussex, England and is described as a Farmers Widow. The 1891 census finds Matilda and her son Edward living at 6 Lothan Villas, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, she is "living on her own means". In 1901 she is living at 15 The Greenway, Hillingdon, Middlesex and is described as "living on own means", her son Edward and sister Emily LONG are living with her.
